"10$ via paypal to the first person to post what sensor goes there, and where the wire for it starts so I can trace it back and plug it in. Seems like a fair amount of money, sat on the phone with the dealership for 75 minutes today..."if you bring it in we can take a look at it" was the final answer..." So I got the motor and trans back in..but now im having problems tracking down one transmission sensor..this is a 1997 A6 Quattro Avant...Pic below. Where is the sensor that plugs in here? I mean, where can I trace the wire to so I can find the sensor..so that I can plug it in? any help greatly appreciate. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n170/mymarkVII/IMG_30801.jpg

i can't help you, but i think people who can help you must know what engine you have or at least, your engine code.

Crank sensor is in the block on this car. I just got done putting the trans and motor back in..plugged in all my lines and electrical connections..and there is this one sensor that just went MIA...spent 2 hours scouring the area looking for it...

And nobody on any audi forum even knows what sensor goes there...a few guys said "uh transmission fill hole?"

about ready to say **** it and drop the motor and trans AGAIN just to find this damn sensor.

It's an O2 Lambda sensor into the exhaust. The connector is up on the bulkhead. Regards Peter

I think you are looking for some thing that is not there, you can verify this if you have a fault code read

I miss-understood, you think you have a missing sensor from the transmission housing behind the O2 sensor, fairly hostile location. The only sensor I can see on the drawing set for that transmission is the speedo sensor G22 But it does not mount like that. Is that a semi-circlular hole into the gearbox in the photo. I think it is going to be the reverse lamps switch that should be fitted there? No idea where the wiring is fed from, sorry! should be an unused plug nearby?

It is for the dealer tool that is used on some versions for setting the ignition timing using an inductive pick up and digital display, VAG tool number V.A.G 1767 or V.A.G 1367. The arrow points to the sensor that goes into the hole.
