Posted this here as it may not be model specific.
Just bought a 2002 Passat Sport 130 tdi complete with one radio wave 3 button key. Manual says should have two RW keys & a spare.
I understand that a new RW key is around £140-180 so I tried a Google and found claims that these keys can be cut by a locksmith who can reprogram them to operate the doors but VW dealers have to set up the transponder. After buying the appropriate 3 button flipkey & new blade on E-Bay, a local auto locksmith says that they cannot do anything with VW 3 button keys, you have to buy new from the VW dealers.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
