Could be the disc is a copy or the laser has failed, it is a known problem but they can be repaired.

It definitely looks like a genuine disc - the car came with both European regions in the DVD case. I guess I can try playing a music CD in the unit and if it works I'll know it's not the laser??...:confused:

Hopefully it's just the disc...it looks a little scratched, but not that bad. Either way, I think I'll be calling the trader I bought it from. :zx11:

it may well play a CD, the laser works harder to read a DVD.
Duff lasers have been known to play a CD and not the nav DVD

I've been away for a couple of days. When I started the car yesterday it read the DVD fine and the mapping all worked??... :confused::confused:

DVD mapping stopped working again soon after...the usual error messages:

"improperly inserted" and "not readable" etc

Just bought a lens cleaning disc with brushes on it. Put it in for 30 seconds and the brushes came out filthy!! Sat Nav DVD mapping appears to work fine now. :D

Hopefully the dust on the laser was the issue and it will continue to work...glad I tried a £15.00 cleaning disc before getting a new laser or DVD drive!!!
