Anyone tried the tuning boxes for the diesels?
I am looking at one for the VW Touran 1.9 105ps. They vary greatly in price from sub £50 which sound to cheap to be any good, to ones in the £150 to £200 bracket that look like they will do a job and then there are the £300+ group which you would expect to work well but are they any better?
I have spoken to a few people with diesels and a guy with a £150 version had really good improvements not just in performance but also in economy. Another guy has upped his Vauxhall from 150 to 200ps and really noticed the difference.
Most of the gains I have seen for the 1.9tdi are fairly modest. Gain of 20ps and about 40-50Nm torque. Some have claimed a 20% fuel economy increase but I reckon it will be more like 5-10%.
I know that a remap would offer even greater improvements but I do not fancy the software sitting permanently on the ECU and if I sold the car it could be removed. So does anyone have any comments on these? There seem to be plenty of these devices about.
