MK4 Golf Airbag Fault

I have a 1999 Golf GTi 2.0, when i start to accelerate when driving, on the display screen its comes up "Airbag Fault" and makes a "beep" noise.
Its been like this since i got the car which was 6 months ago, i should of tryed to find out from where i bought it at the time but just assumed it would be something or nothing. So is it something or nothing or is a major problem?. Is there anyway to fix it myself or will i have to take it to a dealership?

sounds like it will have to go on a vag com to see what kind of fault is in the A/B system

No.

A fair few people have it on here have and will sort you out for modest fee i.e. a few beers !!

My guess though would be the accelerometer sensor which I think is part of the airbag module itself... not sure.
