2.7 for me
Nice V6 sound.
I don't think the 170 is known for it economy plus it has DPF.
I think a bigger engine not working so hard is better than a small one that has to be spanked !!!

I had a 170tdi engine in a golf I had - went well, but for reliability it was terrible , so many issues with DPF even though I did high mileage and not poddle around town. in hindsight I would have the 140tdi. mpg was poor too, averaged 42-44 tops.

We have 3.0TDI 233PS auto so biased :D

However it is a great package, very quick, 4wd for the snow and and easy 38-40 mpg. Auto really suits the car and hides the usual diesel harshness. V6 is a bit smoother than the 4 cylinders.

Depends if you want the ultimate fuel economy in which case the 170 makes a lot of sense (or a chipped 140).

I'd be intrigued to know what mpg a 'chipped' 140 gives versus a standard 140??...

I have the 2.7tdi and I am very pleased with the performance and love it! :D

Depends on what you want. 2.0TDI best for fuel economy but has a 4 cylinder engine which isn't as refined as a V6. 2.7 TDi has a more powerful engine and has 380Nm torque and reasonable economy. 3.0TDI has V6 and 450 Nm torque and is the most powerful, especially if remapped to around 530Nm but is worse for fuel economy. I'm biased, give me a remapped 3.0TDi anytime for pure driving pleasure and for putting a big smile on your face every time you drive it.

Only just got it, so won't pass judgement...although I am very happy with the power and torque from the 140... :D

Not so happy about the mapping DVD not working in the RNS-E though!!

Harley any difference on MPG but lots on torque... Had mine done and I notice very little difference (driving normally that is)

I've done around 5K so far in my 170 TDI - not had any problems with DPF at all or other engine reliability. Had to top it up with oil once, that's all.

Would agree that economy could be better. Still, my car has many other redeeming features such as a sunroof and being an S-Line so it doesn't really bother me.

If I had the money for a new one I'd go for a 140, but sometimes it's difficult to find a 2nd hand one with a completely ideal spec.

Before remap I was getting 600 miles to full tank 70 litres.

Remap was 30 BHP increase!

After remap im getting between 600 - 700 miles to full tank 70 litres.

on average about an extra 50 miles per tank full.

im shyte at maths so if anyone wants to work it out.....................!
