recoding ecu

hi all bought an ecu for my 1.8t 1999 v plate to replace my chipped one, all the numbers are the same on the ecu but it doesnt work ,been told it might be an auto matic one so needs recoding to my car any ideas out there thanks, number of ecu is 4b0 906 018 aa

this is the procedure for intoducing a new ecu with vagcom

Install the new ECU in the car
[Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Adaptation - 10]
Leave channel at "00"
[Read]
[Save]


[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
[Exit]


Turn ignition OFF for 15 seconds. Start vehicle.
