Not driven the car for 3 weeks, been dry in a garage, reversed out, full lock, deep clunk from the front. Checked for anything obviously loose but nothing immediately visible. Drove 1 mile, noticed a tinny rattle from the front when I drove over bumps. It did the clunk once more on a tight lock before I returned it to the garage. I've just searched and found the following links which look like they might be of interest. Wondered if anyone could add anything.

Drop links mate, get into into a garage and up on some ramps and get it properly inspected.

Ive a 1999 mk 4 whenever i go over a bump my car makes a kinda noise that sounds like somethings knocking ,had mechanic take brisk look at it ,says its front driver side trackin rod by the wheel. The cars still under warranty so hopefully the dealer will look after it for me

Yeah, that will be covered under the warranty, was it a dealership warranty, or a private one from a garage ?

The most likely causes are....

Rattly knocking = front inner anti roll bar bushes

Clonk on lock = dry and or seized strut top mount bearings.

Both very common problems on the MK4
