Hello

I ve just bought an 1999 audi cabriolet and the brake warning light on the dash of my audi cabriolet flashes as it should when the ignition is turned on, but remains flashing for about ten seconds more after the other lights go out. After starting the car the first time the light extinguishes as normal on subsequent starts. The brake fluid levels are ok and the pads have been changed recently.

Any thoughts would be appreicated

Hi

If your cab V6? has Hydraulic brake assist, this could be a low pressure warning. When the engine starts in the morning the system builds pressure up until it exceeds the pressure switch warning (approx 120 bar I think)
The system should store pressure, which means fluid is leaking away overnight, could be internal leakage at the hydraulic servo/booster, or it could be an accumulator problem?

In reality, as long as the system pressurises ok and you get hydraulic assistance for say 6 presses of the brake pedal (after turning the engine off) all should be well. It might be worthwhile flushing/changing the hydraulic fluid, makesure it complies with Audi G002000 or the newer Version G004000 which supercedes it.

Not sure what system the 1.8 uses, sorry. Fault sounds consistent with a hydraulic problem, if it's vacuum assisted, it can't be. Good luck with it:beerchug:
