A6 Reverse sensor not working properly

Hi All,

I have a W-reg A6 1.9TDi saloon bought new in 2000.
During first 3 years warranty the reversing sensor went faulty,
when selected reverse the sensor would beep ON permanently
had to come out then go back into reverse to stop it but then
sensor wouldnt work. I had it fixed by dealer under warranty
but now it has gone again, can anyone help I'd like to fix it
myself as am an electronics engineer and know my way around
a multimeter ?
