Hi all, I have searched for this, but no joy - so apologies if this has been covered before.

I have a 2003 A4 1.9TDi with 80K on the clock. When I am in traffic & working the clutch pedal quite a bit, I notice a thud when I let the clutch pedal out (sounds as if it's coming from the back of the car). Is this a fairly common thing, and is it easy to rectify.

Cheers,
Mark

urm.....

Does it only do this when you release the clutch after the hand brake has been apllied??

No, It seems worst when I am sitting in traffic with the pedal down for more than 5 - 10 seconds.

sounds like the release bearing then..

not sure why it would sound to be coming from thr rear.. unless the knock vibration travels down the car..

I have the same problem with my A4 TDI 2001. I hear it specially when you accelerate and brake at slow speed in traffic. The previous owner told me this is the diesel in your tank which may be half full. I had it for more than a year.

I would says it maybe a sticky brake pad? piston?

OR it could be a losse engine mount which is transfering the noise down the car??

Or a lose exhaust "bung" which is flexing as the engine flexes when the clutch released..

Its hard to guess when its a noise!

Hey guys

Mine did the same thing took it to the ******* told me it was the release bearing had the clutch & flywheel replaced, came back everything was ok till i sat in traffic then the sound was back took it back to the ******* it stayed there for 2 day while they did their checks everything came back fine. Got a bit irrate as not long after that it was back. took the car to an independent explained the noise & her said it was the break piston, he replace that & my baby has been fine since then. I hope that it can this easy for you guys too.
