A4 Cabrio 2002-2004 Which engine should I choose and why?

Hi, I'm a brand new member looking to buy an A4 cabrio of the 2002 - 2004 vintage. Has anyone any tips on how to choose the right engine? Also what are the up and down sides to the Quattro? Fuel cost is not my biggest issue if performance is significantly better ofn the bigger motors. Is th 2.5 diesel noisy? Any help would be really appreciated as I may be buying one very soon. diesel not heard when in car,hood up or down,not the quickest of things with this engine although mines multitronic

Thanks Dave. Does that mean it's quiet even to people outside the car or just those sat inside. Basically I don't want a beautiful car that people will hear rattling away! If so, I'll have to go and see a couple. Also, I'd heard the performance of the diesel was pretty good?

Not that noisy,I would only choose the diesel or the 3.0 petrol but that is expensive to run,diesel is quite powerful with loads of low down torque making for easy driving with the auto box
