help please?

hi folks can anyone tell me how to get access to my front ashtray to change it for a wood 1, I can see no screws or clips , have looked under gaiter, its a 1997 r tdi s, any ideas would we welcome

Hi there mate do you mean the wood effect trim that you stick on?.

If so you have to remove the centre console there are 2 screws at each side of the console covered by plastic tabs get a flat head screw driver and pop the tabs out.

Then remove the rear ashtry and theres 3 13m nuts remove them then pull the gear gaitor off and unscrew the gear knob and then remove the console.

This is how i did mines.

no its the genuine 1 from vw of an se i think , i cannot see any screws or caps whatsoever on the centre console , can you tell me eactly were to look if you can please?

Ive sussed it I took of Mr Magoos specs and then i saw the location holes.
