View Full Version : Anyone with facelift model TPMS?
Hi all,
Just wondering (hoping!) whether anyone has a facelift-model A6 with factory-fitted Tyre Pressure Monitoring System? I've been attempting to enable it on my car using VCDS and the hidden menu, but I get stuck when I get to coding the ABS module, as there is no Long Code Helper for this in VCDS for the ABS module fitted to my A6, and I really don't want to start experimenting with the coding of the ABS module! My thinking is, if I can see how the module is factory-coded for TPMS I can replicate it on my car.
In exchange, I'd be happy to enable Needle Sweep, Video-in-Motion, MMI hidden menu and battery meter on your car if you desire.
Thanks,
MF.
Hi,
I have been trying to do the same thing on my A6 Avant Le Mans, but I get stuck on the same thing. I can get the MMI screen to display the TPMS, but when I try to enable it, it just reverts back to the greyed out selection.
Please, if anyone out there has done this or knows how, step by step guide would be great.
MF, I managed to get the other bits working but couldnt get the needle sweep enabled - can you let me know?
Thanks.

Hey MF, that sounds like a great offer:approve:
There's gotta be someone here that can help, surely?:beerchug:
While you're waiting for responses though, why not try sending a pm to
A8tech and also to PeterD and ask for their help?
They're both techs as far as I'm aware and have both chipped in here on numerous occasions with great advice and technical info...
Good luck MF

Hi,
What changes (if any) did you make to the ABS module? As far as I can tell, there are four steps to enabling TPMS+:
1. In the Hidden Menu, go to car->cardevicelist and enable "RDK".
2. In the Hidden Menu, go to car->carmenuoperation and set "Tires Air Pressure Control" from 0 to 5. Reboot the MMI.
3. In VCDS, go to [03 - ABS Brakes], [Security Access - 16] and enter the security code displayed in the popup balloon, then go to [Coding - 07] and change the original value to another value with the critical TPMS bit set or unset - this is where I need info on the correct bit to change.
4. In VCDS, go to [17 - Instruments], [Coding - 07], Byte 4 and change bit 0 from 0 to 1.
When I try this in my car but without the bit change in Step 3, the Tyre Pressure monitoring option in the MMI stays greyed out and I get a TPMS error displayed in the DIS when I make the change in step 4. All that stands between me and a working system is a single ABS module bit change, but I really don't want to go through changing each bit experimentally as I'm not brave enough to make blind changes to a critical module like ABS!
I have submitted a request to Ross-Tech for more details on coding my ABS module, but it looks like they have some research to do - all they can tell me at the moment is that the coding is done via SVM. If I can find another car with TPMS+ as a factory-fit option in the meantime, it should be (hopefully) easy to look at the software coding for the ABS module and figure out which is the TPMS bit.
I have successfully enabled TPMS+ on another forum member's A4 B8, but the B8 has a different ABS module which is easy to code.
Needle-sweep was really easy on my car. I used the following options in VCDS:
[Select], [17 - Instruments], [Coding - 07], [Long Coding Helper], click on the second byte in the list, then check the bit for "Gauge Test/Needle Sweep active". Press [Do it!].
If you're stuck, PM me the coding of [17 - Instruments] and we can compare with my coding.
Cheers!

Hi Jim,
I hope you're right - I'm just keeping an eye out for anyone with TPMS+ already working or who is ordering a new car and speccing TPMS.
To be honest I'm reluctant to PM the likes of A8 Tech, Peter, Crasher etc with specific questions (or anyone else on the forum for that matter) unless they explicitly invite me to. They contribute hugely to the forum and provide some cracking advice and guidance entirely for free. I'd assume that they would post up advice if they had it, and may well see it as rude or demanding if I start sending them personal messages asking for help. I'm hopeful of finding the answer soon, though - fingers crossed! :)
Cheers!

Wow, what a great attitude MF:approve: shame there aren't more like you.
The guys mentioned are absolutely top notch, I can't praise their contribution highly enough and I'm pretty confident that they wouldn't see it that way, but, see your point.
I really do hope you get the info you're looking for:beerchug:

Many thanks, I will keep that in mind if I get stuck.

BUMP>>>>:buttkick:
Any help on this one guys?
I'd be interested to know too:beerchug:
Don't you need sensors and the like to make this work? Or is it a case that all A6s have the necessary hardware, it just needs to be enabled?

Think it uses the ABS to work out the circumference, so a under inflated will have a different rotational speed..

Yes - this is how TPMS+ works - it was introduced with the A6 4f facelift at the end of 2008. Prior to this, a more expensive, complex (and better) TPMS system was used which utilised valve pressure sensors which transmitted signals back to a receiver in the car.

Just bumping this thread as a few new A6 drivers are appearing on the forum. If you have a shiny new A6 with the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, please stand up! :)

Sorry!! Looks like for both of us October can't come soon enough!!!! :o :)

Well, I now have more information on the TPMS+ system for the facelift A6 models. It appears that unlike on the A4 B8, simply recoding the ABS module is not a solution for enabling TPMS+. :(
The factory-fitted cars come with an extra module #4C - Tire Pressure II "RKA+" (ReifenKontrollAnzeige) ref. 4F0 910 274 + flat contact housing 18 pin ref. 3D0 035 131
Thanks must go to "a6-driver" on an American forum for discovering this.
Does anyone know whether it would be feasible to purchase this module and connector and retro-fit it?
Cheers!

Did you have any luck with this ?

Mark doesn't have his C6 anymore, I think for well over a year now so I doubt he carried it on. ;)
Did you have any luck with this ?
Nope - sorry. It was a company car and I didn't want to make modifications to it that might have caused me issues when it went off-lease. My C7 has TPMS as standard, though, so I'm a happy boy :)
