My 2001 130bhp Tdi seems be making strange tappet noise...
Car has never been run low on oil and has full service history,up to 68k with volkswagen

Anything serious/to be worried about???

Seen a mechanic today says prob coming from camshaft.
BUT he isnt vw specailist.

the pd engines req top class oil only vag spec 505.01 - 507.00

mine has done 106k and does this from cold - once warmed its fine . HTH.

it can be an injector knock , not a tappet or cam knock

Badtimes then!

Ur talking big money then whatever angle u look at :zx11:

Well the harder I rev her the noise dosnt seem 2 get any louder...

If was camshaft quicker it rotated the louder the tappeting????

the noise would get faster, but not louder i feel.
i don't think the cam would wear out just because of the "wrong" oil being used once
in it's last sevice if done recently, may be a hydraulic tappet/follower stuck if it doesn't
go away after start up perhaps, or it may not be the cam at all and down to belt tensioners/alternator clutch/ac compressor?

stewy.

U may be ryt man!

Shes due her 3rd belt soon as last one was done at 58k and 107k on her now.

The noise would be more once coming back down the rev's, wouldnt be that overly loud just im particular about my motors...

Oil only done within last 1000miles or so, here's hoping that in another few thousand miles quiet down!

If my cams are worn'n would there b metal fillings in oil?

Checked there, oil is clean, just oil...

you would need to split the oil filter open and spread the paper out to have a good
look for metal filings.
in the old days, with badly worn cams, the filings would gather in the head surfaces,
visible by removing the cam /rocker box,
