If any one could help suggest anything please feel free.....read on....

Car VW Beetle 2000 2.0 X-reg 42k miles
Full service history, just put 12 months MOT on and had a yearly service, it and it was running sweet.
On my way to work on Thursday brakes locked and traction control started kicking in.
Got the AA to take me to VW Wayside in Dunstable where they diagnosed the problem.
Water had got into the ABS system??
Price to fix £1557!!
Part No required: 1J0698517A which is coming in at £1042.20 + VAT.
I have spoken to customer services for a "Good Will" gesture but as the car has a FSH but not a FVWSH there is nothing the can (want) to do to help. I did point out the fact that irrelevant of who has been servicing this car the same problem would have happened but I think this just confused the monkey on the other end of the phone. I also pointed out that I also just bought, in Oct 2006, a VW Golf GT TDi at 18.5k but this seemed irrelevant as they could only offer a good will guesser on the car needing to be fixed if it had a FVWSH - I am not impressed.
Is my problem a common one with the new beetles or is this tough s**t?
Would it be possible to source the above part cheaper elsewhere?

Thanks for letting me moan. Any help advice appreciated."

Cheers

David
