B7 A4 Avant Removing Dial Glass

Hi All,

Don't ask how this happened but, my little lad was sat on my knee, pretending to drive whilst we were parked.

Next thing he chucked up everywhere all over the dash etc !!

:Blush: Can't be too hard on the little fella, however it looks like some residue, has gotten behid the dial glass.

Does anyone know how I can remove the glass ?

Hi there,

You need to remove the cluster to un-clip the plastic surround.

It's quite straight forward, there is a plastic cover at the middle at the bottom of the dials that you pull off towards you. This reveals two screws, undo these.
then remove the cover at the right hand side of the dash that the door covers and reach in to the gap.
Then you'll feel the back of the instrument cluster, give it a push out and it should start to move. You then need to reach around the back of it and unclip the two leads which are plugged into the back on either side.

This has been done from memory, and I think I've covered everything but i'm sure if I miss something someone will let you know.

It's really straightforward though :D

then the plastic just unclips from the panel.

Refitting is the reverse of removal.

Great instructions there. Having done this recently, all I'd add is:

1. Move the steering wheel all the way out and down;
2. IIRC they're torx (T20) screws/bolts; and
3. the two plugs at the rear are attached with a clip that needs to be levered upwards to disengage (see pic).

Just finished this job and this is the best procedure I found...

The torx is a T25 although a T20 will do it too. WHen you undo the torx it might fall out but its easy to retrieve once the cluster comes out. Recommend you use two nose pliers to winkle out the cluster as described in the link above. Getting the torx back in on reinsertion is a scutter but I managed to tape the bolt onto the end of the driver to get them started.

Satisfying to see everything light up again with a clean glass...
