Hello,
1st post so hello all!! ;)
Ive been hearing mixed things about changing the stock double din cd/tape players on the A4? I want to put my pioneer headunit in the car as its got full ipod control and bluetooth for the phone and I miss these items on the audi headunit. (Car is 2002 1.9 Tdi)
Has anyone on here changed theirs? Ive heard that you have to rewire the back speakers, tweeters, loose dash display and steering wheel controls etc if you change which sounds like a lot of hassle? Is it really this difficult?
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

It is handy enough to do. I replaced mine with a sony unit with ipod control. Initially i lost the rear speakers but i just had to swap one connection at the rear of the head unit itself to get it working. The problem is that you have to supply power to the rear amp to work the two speakers and the sub. I fed the rear ipod connector from the rear of the unit into the glove box, happy days. You'll have to buy a surround from someplace like halfords to finish it off.
Definately worth all the bother sound is 10 times better without any actual speaker upgrades.

Ah thats good news .. do you remember exactly what you had to do with switching the wires? ie. which one??
Also did you loose the dash display? I also think ill loose the steering wheel controls but this seems to rectify that??

anybody serious about their music won't bother with rear speakers or the pathetic slug woofer in the back!
sounds like you like your music, do you have any plans for upgrading the rest? i went the whole hog with 4 amps, eq, focal 2way fronts and 12" sub in a custom enclosure in the wheel well. i still have 100% practical use of the boot space too! (gotta love audi'd for there massive boots :approve:)

yes sounds in a car are very important to me and in my younger days I used to have all the custom installs and amps, subs etc but now I just want something half decent with bluetooth and ipod control and decent sound.
Must be starting to show my age LOL :aargh4:
