Brake problem
Hi can anybody help iv a 2002 130 tdi passat iv notice the last fe months some times when i would brake the pedal would go hard and i would have to pull up the hand brake to stop the car then after half hour or so the pedal would be ok again and braking back to normal but 3 or 4 weeks later it would happen again this has been going on for a while no iv asked the garage about the problem but nobody has a clue whats wrong iv bled the brakes but there is't any air trapped can someone help please im so nervous driving the car it could happen at anytime

Sounds like a servo problem. Next time it happens you can test it by stopping the car. switching off the engine (after letting the turbo wind down obviously), pump the brake pedal 5/6 times and then start the engine while holding your foot on the brake., if its working fully you should feel the pedal drop away a couple of inches when the engine starts. If it stays solid its not working and the servo might need replacing. also it could be the vacuum supply from the engine, there a pipe that comes from the servo th the inlet manifold. This should be fully intact with no splits. If its hissing you found your fault.!!!

Found the problem the plenum chamber was blocked and the chamber under the battery was full of water also the water got in behind the servo i believe there is a recall on 2002 passats over the problem with the plenum chamber.
