Snapped diesel cambelt

On the 2003/2004 1.9 VW diesels what are the typical results (not symptoms!) of cam belt failure?

Cam lifted out of carriers destroying head?
Just bent valves?
Cracked valve guides?
Cracked pistons?

or perhaps all four?

Main reason I asked is because I've done two Fiat Punto TD's and they both bent valves (expected), cracked a number of cam buckets, cracked just one guide and barely marked tops of pistons.

I gather some Peugeot diesels have been known to break the cam and cam bearing carriers away from the head.
