does anyone find 2nd gear is too low down when moving away from a stand still? and it breaks the car slightly?

car is audi a4 tdi 140

Do you mean: Does second gear feel a bit 'tardy'? Like the engine is being held back a bit?

If thats the case then I believe they are meant to do that. Someone a bit more technical than me will be able to fill in, but I am sure some engines are torque limited deliberately in 1st and 2nd gear to protect the drivetrain from excessive stress.

i mean like i rev the engine in first to move away move to second and it feels like the gear is too low when i bring the clutch up and it jolts slightly

I never use 1st for too long on pulling away in my 140,once in 2nd and some throttle its away like a train!!

I always find this in all Diesel cars. 1st is useless but if you jump to second really quick then you are away like lightning!

Yep I find this too... Can't get much out of 1st.


The only time I skip gears is from 4th to 6th
