Which oil to use?

Hi all, Just returned back to Audi after a couple of years!....got myself a nice 99' A4 2.5 tdi. (AFB engine)
It is high mileage however, 156k, and im looking to change the oil.
What oil would i best of using taking into account, the age/mileage etc?

allways use the oil thats specified in manual
i always use either longlife 111 or fully synthetic gm oil on all cars
my freind has said his passat sounds quieter and is a little more economical on the fully gm oil

Checked in the manual, but for fully synthetic just says, 5w/30, 10w/30, or 5w/40, 10w/40.

I wonder which one is the best for the health of the engine, given the miles/age tho?

i use 5w/30 fully synthetic oil which is made for GM its their long life oil and i pay£18 for 5 litres
should be £39
you could use Castrol edge that some people rave about
