I have a problem with the central locking on a 2003 A6. The button on the key has recently stopped opening the doors. I have change batteries. Still no luck. So in order to open the door I have use the key in the drivers door. This will open the door but I have to turn on the ignition to open the other doors and boot. I only have one key for the car so I was going to buy a new one from Audi. I think the cost is about € 350. Does anyone have any alternative solutions that might work or a cheaper solution for keys.
Regards
John

*coughs* eBay! You may need to get a key blank also though.

With good known batteries installed, a VAG style scan tool can tell you if the key is recognized by viewing the correct data block. At least you'll know if it's time to replace the remote.
The correct year would help tell you what system you have.
Before 2002, you'll have address 35 - Central Locking
On and after 2002, you'll have address 46 - Convenience System
