Vag Com

My wife has kindly offered to buy me Vag com for my birthday!!
I am wondering what version I should get, the shareware or the proper cable from Rosstech.
I have a 1997 passat and dont want to get the shareware version for $100 when I really need the full version for $249. Any advice would be gratefully received.

While it seems a lot more money, I'd get the dearer one (poor wife).
The exchange rates are in our favour.
I started off with a cheap cable from ebay, and the shareware version which I then upgraded for $99, but soon upped it to ROSS-TECH's own cable as it includes a hardware key instead of annoying serial license number and they give a $99 credit for the standalone software.

The new cable is worth it even for just being able to use the latest version of VAG COM, it is much better than the old version. Also, there is no need for a serial number, so you can use their cable on any computer, whereas way I did it before had a key which was tied to a specific computer, and if you reinstall windows or change the hardware the key would stop working and you would have to apply for a new one!
