I'm very much a novice when it comes to car repairs, but, only yesterday I noticed what appears to be a bad leak coming from the area above the oil filter. Today I had a look, and it appears to be coming from the oil pressure switch. I checked that the bolt wasn't loose for starters - fired up the engine, and put my hand in the area roughly where the problem exists. After a short time, oil appeared to be coming out between the bolt and the spade connector. Has anyone heard of this problem; do I possibly only need to replace the switch, or am I maybe looking at something a bit more serious? The car isn't overheating, and the engine isn't making any strange noises, but does seem to be losing oil at an alarming rate.

Replaced switch at a cost of £7.00, and all seems well. Had more trouble locating the leak in the first place. I will probably spend more time cleaning up the oily mess this leak has caused, than it did to replace the switch!

The faulty switch was leaking oil out the plastic moulded bit at the spade connector.

If I took this to a garage, I would no doubt have been charged a small fortune, so thanks for the info about it being not uncommon.
