Hi all

Firstly, apologies I only log on here when I have got a problem! I run 10 vehicles including 5 classic cars so am always running about like an idiot.

So, yesterday some nice person side swiped me and smashed my wing mirror. I got the cost from the VW main dealer and fell off my chair - over £600 to have the job done, not helped by the cost of the ante dazzle morror glass at £261!!!! So I've been trawling the net trying to find a cheaper way out. I have bought a new cover and am bidding on a motor on Ebay. But does anyone know a cheap source for the indicator lens and an ante dazzle mirror? I've tried the breakers but Touaregs are fixed here or exported and no one has mirror parts.

My V10 vehicle has done high miles and is used as a tow horse, so the prats can be second hand, no problem. If anyone can help I would be very grateful if they could also email me at nicholas_howard@yahoo.com as well as posting a reply on here.

It's the 'breaking' option for you.

Here are some examples, best to call to see whether they can do a deal with you,

Thank you alll. I have become quite knowledgeable on Touareg wing mirrors in the last 2 days! I have now sourced:

New outer cover (needs spraying) for £32 from Ebay (£70 from VW) (7L68575280)

2nd hand motor arm from Ebay for £20 (£68 from VW)

Indicator lens will come from VW at £40 (7L6949102B)

Plastic Insert for courtesy light will come from VW at £7 (7L685852E O1C)

The BIG prblem is the mirror glass. V10's were fitted with an ante dazzle glass and VW charge £261 for this or over $1,000 in the US!!! (7L6857522J) whereas the non ante dazzle unit is £43 (7L6857522G). I am waiting for a quote from China, which is from the factory where they are made and someone has hoiked a few out the back door and should cost about $140 shipped, or if this doesn't work I will buy a stick on replacement from Ebay until I find the right unit.

No one can explain to me why these ante dazzle units cost so much - but I believe based on the Chinese price that VW have decided that if you can afford to fuel a V10 then you can pay inflated prices.

I checked out the links above - thank you - but none of them had ante dazzle.

Have a good weekend when you get there

WOW!!!! £1,168 + VAT (£1372) to replace a wing mirror.

If anyone from VW is looking at this thread then I would like to know how you can even begin to justify this. VW built their reputation as 'car's for the people' and they need to remember this. It is partly due to a crazy parts pricing stategy that Touaregs are worth considerably less than Range Rovers or Land Cruisers of a similar age. As the vehicles get older and pass down into the hands of owners that won't pay these crazy prices the values will continue to be hit and this will affect their ability to command the high premium prices for new vehicles.

On Thursday I had my V10 servived by In 'n Out in Bristol. They charged me £129 for an oil/filter/air filter change plus oil/diesel treatment plus complete check over. VW charge nearly £200 just for the oil change and the service would have cost me about £450. However, I still have the 'needs a service' light on my dash when I start due to VW having put massive effort into software design to prevent 3rd party's from re-setting the service indicator; this is their last defence mechanism to maintain unjustifyable margins in their dealer network.
