I have an 06 touran that has developed a noise when the steering is turned. I thought it could be a rubber bush creaking but Ive traced it to the top McPherson strut bearing. If I hold the top of the spring and turn as it would be turned by the steering it is tight and then releases like a rubber bush would. Has anyone dismantled these? will I need a spring compressor etc. Also I took off the cover plate at the back of the engine bay to get to where the strut is fixed and found the area full of leaf type debrit and dirt that had blocked the drain holes. A good idea to take it off from time to time to ensure that area is cleared out before the dreaded rust sets in or water floods into the heating system.
