My car insurance is up for renewal and a few of the insurance company's are saying that my car is a 4x4. It's a 2004 A4 2.5 TDi Sport 163bhp. I bought the car 4 months ago. Is there a way or a website that would say whether it is or not?

Call an Audi dealer or go in and give them your VIN number (under passenger wiper) and they can tell you everything. Do you have a car data sticker in your service book/car manual? If not, there will be one in the boot. From memory it will say "A4 Limousine qu" - the qu bit meants quattro which is permanent 4WD (My car is a saloon, so it sayd Limousine, if you have an evant/cabrio it will say something else)

Hope this helps.

To be fair, I wouln't know what to look for, I'm not that mechanically minded. (And I don't think Daftbrush is either - otherwise he would've done it already!)
What's the difference? Presumabaly it's big?!

If you look under the back,if its quattro it will have a rear diff and driveshafts....

I'm not technically minded enough (i.e. not at all) to recognise a diff/driveshafts(!)

But I think I've tried the 60 thing scooby, also, when I accellerated in the snow - I actually moved!

pull up on something like a gravel carpark, with a friend. get them to watch the car as you accelerate rather hard, causing the wheels to spin. if only the front wheels spin, its not a quattro, if the back wheels spin as well, it is a quattro.

Turn the traction control off - (in a empty car park or a quite road) and put your foot down. Im sure you will feel and see the skid marks on the roads!!

Thought the 165bhp 2.5TDi was a 2 wheel drive version. All the 2.5TDi B6s that were quattro were 180bhp. Mine is the quattro version and an avant and apart from the badges as was said earlier the stickers in the manual and in the boot give away the secret. Of course the quattro badges could have been bought on e bay, as was done by a contributor to this site.:smashfrea

SWMBO is out in ours at the moment or I would have checked the avant quattro code on my stickers

What about the log book,
MAKE.....AUDI
MODEL/TYPE.........A4 SPORT CABRIOLET (OR WHATEVER YOUR IS)
DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION.....19 11 2002
ETC....ETC...ETC
I'm sure my quattro had it written at the MODEL/TYPE section

I must admit, when I rang for my insurance they tried claiming mine was a quattro too. I told them it wasn't, they said it was. Was kindof a fun argument. I basically ended up saying that I could climb under my car, take a picture and prove it was not a quattro...at which point they believed me. Oh, that and the fact the log book says FWD also. :)

I still think the dash badge is gonna be the best way to find out!
