I am considering an audi b8 a4 170 hp as my next vehicle and would be obliged to hear from owners of the 170(only) as to their fuel economy returns.

Thank you.

I've done just over 10k miles in 10 months & am returning c40mpg in a 170 Quattro using V-Power. A mixture of runs from 28 mile office commutes in busy traffic to 300 mile motorway journeys. I could achieve higher returns with a lighter touch!

Had my MY2010 FWD 170 since Sept 1st 2009 and have covered 6k miles, the average from new is 41.5mpg which is 25% town, 25% motorways, 50% A+B roads.
It isn't as good as my previous PD130 Passat, but the cold weather seems to have had quite an impact; I hope it will improve as the engine gets a few more miles on it.

Blimey, I hope my TDIe 136 cheers up once it's got a few more miles on it then.... My average so far is showing as 47MPG... The book claimed it'd do 49 around town.

Yes, I'm still getting used to a diesel but I am now ensuring I upchange more or less when it recommends. And, due to liking my licence, I just set the cruise at 70 when I'm on a motorway.

I have done 4,000 in mine I would say 60% round town and 40% on the motorway and I am averaging 41 mpg. I average 50 mpg on a motorway run which does me grand. Pretty similar mpg to my last car a 3 series.

I've completed just over 6k miles in my fwd 170 and I'm averaging around 41mpg around town, 45mpg in mixed driving and regularly over 50mpg on longer Motorway runs but only when exercising restraint with my right foot!!

My new A5 170 TDI Quattro with only 250miles on the clock is doing 33MPG around town and a run to Grimsby Audi today from Hull (33mile) did 42MPG.
Compare that to the 211 petrol turbo of 22 and 28 i had. figures from the DIS.

Hi Conman,

I have an S Line 2.0TDi 170 saloon and I have done nearly 6000 miles since new. My mpg as measured on the DiS is about 50 and the calculated at each fill up figure is about 47-48. I am not a granny nor a boy racer, but I think I am sensible and do anticipate slow down and speed up events. My mpg has suffered in the bad weather we have had in the North of Scotland lately, but it has not dropped below 43 even in the worst conditions.

Hope this helps

Yep,

Jan 09 S-Line 170...can get well over 50mpg on A-roads if I really try, but real driving gives low to mid 40s. On a short 6 miles urban run to work, I get about 42, on longer runs including motorway, 47/48 is realistic...

OBC is 'on the top side shall we say'

Actual MPG as for my 140 as logged on the www.spiritmonitor.de (http://www.spiritmonitor.de) website is below.

just got back from a trip to the french alps and averaged 44.7mpg over a good 7hrs 550 miles (1 pee stop and 2 tolls) journey with the cruise set at 82mph. Keeping it clean and polished up is good for 1-2mpg i reckon.
Back here though im getting an average of 49 - 52 on a 1.5hr commute. (50-70mph in traffic)
