Just picked up a '94M 80 1.6 base model. On the road it feels like the mileage at 98k is accurate, it's pretty smooth running with no real hiccups or stutters,
however, during an emissions test the level of hydrocarbon was over 1500ppm, the limit for uk mot is 200ppm,
The tester offered no suggestion as to any solution, I was wondering if any forum members could help to point me in the right direction of diagnosis.
The car certainly does not "smell" of burning oil, and there is no audible excessive engine noise, or smoke. The CO was a healthy 0.9% in the same test.
Anyway, all suggetions considered, :)

Some more inf,
OK I just got a printout from an emissions test this afternoon.
Heres the readings;

Fast Idle test
Engine Speed =2583rpm
CO 0.24%
HC 610ppm
Lambda 1.00

Sendcond Fast Idle Test
Engine speed =2674rpm
CO 0.36%
HC 475ppm
Lambda 1.00

So although its not as bad as first appeared, it's still a fail,:zx11:
The oil and filter were changed this morning
The plugs and air filter were changed at 91k, and timing belt at 95k,
The cat looks like the original.

So if anyone would like to comment;)......feel free :1zhelp:
