During the recent inclement weather I managed to slow slide into a kerb and scuffed my front driver side alloy. Not the end of the world but bl**dy annoying.

Do any of you good people have any opinions on the best option to fix.
Should I attempt this myself? I have seen some alloy wheel repair kits on the internet or would it be best to go to a prefessional?

Your recommendations would be most welcome.

Thanks

I'd always say go to a professional for something like this!!

I did the same on the nearside. :Blush2:

At least it wasn't a large stationary object or something more significant! The scuff is right on the very outer edge where it meets the rubber and you have to look twice to see it.

Actually I may get a tracking check done even though I can't feel any noticable pull or balance issues through the steering wheel. Of course, the spare would be a steel wheel, so I can't swap it out for a "quick fix"!

Never thought of repairing them myselfhttp://www.windowsguide.org/forum/images/smilies/hmmm.gif

Thinking about one of these...
Smart Auto Repairs (http://www.smartautorepairs.com/alloy-wheel-repair-i-7.html)
They are local to me
and
The Wheel Specialist (http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/)
Again they have a branch near me.

Thing is I know nowt about any of them. Did the same as you over Xmas :o:(

I would not recommend the alloy repair kits that are available off the Ebay. I got one in the summer to do a minor scuff repair to my old fella's Saab's wheel. The paint for these kits is in a little nail polish type bottle with brush in the lid, trying to get any kind of decent finish was impossible. I had thought that it may be a cheap fix but to be honest the repair is so noticable that it was not really worth doing. I'd say wait until you've scuffed your wheels a few times and get a pro to sort.

In my TT days I used Chips Away and they were very good.I have just used them again to repair some paint damage on my wifes BMW Mini and again they were super.Even pointed out previous paint repair job which happened before we took delivery of car when new. I will be taking that up with the Mini dealer shortly

I slide into the curb last year. I had few problems after that, the steering wheel was not straight after that had a noise in the rear wheel bearing all was fixed by the warranty :D .
Now both alloys with the dents are on the rear, but i just noticed in high speed driving there are some vibrations. I am planing to balance the wheels to see are they the problem or not. They are the winter wheels and haven`t driven them for long after the accident.
But guys make sure there is no damage to the suspension do wheel tracking, can be done under the warranty just don`t tell the dealer the reason
Good luck

I would go pro as well i hit a kerb doing 35 before xmas and the snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I damaged both drivers side wheels one was beyond repair and the other i had repaired but i wasnt happy with so ended up replacing that as well...........Just goes to show dont do it your self and get a good wheel guy to refurb the whole wheel shouldnt be more than about £80 per wheel and dont say yes to anyone who suggests doing it on the car these are the cowboys
