Which gear oil

Which gear oil for 1995 gearbox fitted to front drive 2.6 v6 ABC engine in 80 coupe

in my 16v coupe, i use lucas fully synthetic gear oil, rather than vags own, and it certainly does the job.

Hi Zollaf ,I ended up ringing Audi and they told me Hypoid EP 80 is suitable requiring around 3 litres,does that sound about right?

according to autodata, you should use 2.85 litres of 75/90 synthetic oil. i wouldnt use ordinary hypoid myself as it may not do the box any favours. the stuff i used costs about £10/ litre.

Well,I asked the question on here 2 or 3 times to no avail so rang Audi expecting something expensive ,....but the car has done 140'000 miles and I think this oil is better than no oil at the moment ,so I'll use it for now unless you really ,strongly don't think it's a good idea

ps; she only does 15 miles a day at 30-40-55mph

like you say, any oil is better than no oil. i suspect you may find it baulks a bit more, but you can always change it again if its no good. i cant see it doing any harm, but ive never tried it. let us know what happens.
