Service history record

Does anyone have any info on how to trace service history. I had a service and a cambelt done by Audi but didnt get my book stamped. The main dealer in Exeter has since changed ownership and they say they have lost records in the change over, which includes any record of the work i have had done. I dont really want to pay out for another cambelt change as the money tree at the bottom of the garden is a bit bare lately.
