I recently purchased a 1.0e polo 2000W for my wife, it only goes 60 miles on £10 worth of fuel. It seems a little high, is this what they do or is it impending engine management problems which is what whatcars web site says?

THanks for the 2 replies above, she drives 8 miles to work very early in the morning in very low traffic and then 8 back at night, she goes in to the city but we live out in the country so there is plenty of A road crusing for about 5 miles of that.

I'll check the brakes but any other ideas???

I take it you have checked for fuel leaks? Any smell of petrol after a run?

After a bit of dectective work she now drives at more reasonable engine speeds!!!

Going everywhere at 5000 RPM was not economical, she now gets a respectable 130 miles out of £15 worth of fuel.:aargh4:

still sounds low to me and <jaw dropped> at 5000 rpm, its only a poor 1.0!

Hi there, i get the same problem from my polo now and again but actually find it helpful.......when the car starts to guzzle fuel it usually means something needs attention i.e. oil, tyres, plugs etc. It seems to be very good at letting me know when it needs attention although i'd prefer if it found a cheaper way hehe. It's maybe something worth checking. Good luck
