Hi everyone, just asking whether anyone can give some hints/info on how easy or hard it is to do the cambelt service on that engine. Special tools? bumper off etc etc. Any info would be gratefully received. I am reluctant to shell out the same money to an independant as to a main dealer! The parts are around £100 from the dealer so I don't know how they can justify the £ 200 plus for labour! Thanks in anticipation. :1zhelp:

Ill tell you how the front of the car has to come off!!!! It's a labour intensive job I've had one done on an A4 audi and now the passat. You also have to remove the cam cover to hold the cam in place then you have to undo the cam sprocket bolt which is torqued to FT If you don't have the tools don't bother.

Cheers Dozz, I did the belt etc on my A4 1.8T and I used extention bolts to hold the front end. The Passat looks similar but obviously there is a lot more mechanicals in the vicinity! I still fancy doing it myself if I can get the right gear. Watch this space!!
