how do i reprogram my key?

hey people. just got some new batteries for my key.. and its stopped working :(
anyone know how to recode it please? i only have one key with the remote central locking. the other one is just a bog standard key.

Switch on the ignition (using additional key).
Lock vehicle from outside with the key to be adapted by way of the driver's lock door.
Within 5 seconds press "unlock" key of remote key
Wait 5 seconds.
Now press the "unlock" key again to confirm the matching process.
Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
Check function of new remote key.

this didn't work :( i have a key that only has one button to open and lock the doors.. does this sound right?? :S

No i would say you do not have a remote key have a look at the end of the plastic housing see if you see a small light(bulb)

i've just replaced the batteries in it.. 4 small batteries. there is a small bulb, that lights up red when i press the button. so must be a remote key, just making sure its the correct one for my car? the key itself works fine. :S
