Hi,

I have a 99 model Vw Passat 1.9 TDi. When setting off, I find that the auto gear box misses 1st gear.
With normal auto's the car start to move as soon as 'D' is engaged and the foot brake is released. My car doesn't start rolling and as soon as I start to accelarate there is a bump and then the gear engages. Almost like a void.
The idle rate is bang on and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. I've also found when driving hard the gear change can miss also. The engine revs increase as if in neutral and a few seconds later the gears engage, usual 2nd or 3rd.
Please help as i've been told by a few people that I would need to recon my gear box. Are they right?

Kindest regards

Jum

Hey thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the oil.

I purchased the car 2 days ago. The seller claims he has had it done, but i can't help but feel skeptical.

I've got the seller to sort it out for me. He's taken the car to a transmission specialist. Reckon he'l get a diagnostic done.
Hopefully the problem should be ironed out by Monday. Will let you know what the outcome is.
