Engine Running Hot

Hi there, this is my first post..I have a VW Passet 2001 1.6 Petrol with 57KMls ..the head gasket went @ 52KMls....(which I got done) but now After driving for a not so long period of time I find that the heat from the engine to be very hot...the temp gauge is perfect an everything else seem fine...i'm just a tad worried as when driving in traffic and rain , a lot of steam seems to be coming up from the bonnett...I may be thinking the worst..did anybody ever notice this .....

Yup, it happened on my A4 1.8T. The bonnet steams like a good'un in the rain.....
Check that the electric cooling fan starts when the engine is hot and stationary.
