Diesel smell

have a 1900 tdi touran . I keep getting the smell of diesel i looked under the car today and it was coming from an open ended pipe that runs next to the exhaust and spraying on to the exhaust .I dont know where the other end goes to but it looks about 13mm in dia . Any ideas Thanks

i have no idea what this pipe is, is it at the front of car? middle,or rear?

It goes from the engine to halfway down the car. I would say it is made of an alloy the car is 2006 and all standard. It runs at the side of the front exhaust pipe. You would say its like a breather pipe of some sort
