i want to replace the number plates on my car, as i am getting my private plate put on soon.

the original number plates seem to be either glued on, or clipped into place.

now whats the best way to remove the old plates, is it a matter of carefully yanking them off... or are there clips or particular areas i should pay attention too?

also when refitting the new plates, what would you recommend is better option, the screwless options or drill holes and screw them on??

any other pointers would be welcomed, thanks.

Mine were stuck on with some sort of adhesive-backed pads.

I used some thinners to clean off the residue left behind and then put the new plates on using industrial strength velcro.

Had the same issue when I bought my car a year ago. The plates are stuck on with large foam pads. They're large foam pads to make sure there's no vibration so thats what I used when i stuck my private plate on. To take it off, just carefuly prize it off & use some white spirit or other solvent to clean off the old residue. When you get the new plates made the shop should be able to supply the pads. Oh & keep the old plates somewhere safe, when you do end up selling the car and take off your private plates the DVLA will just revert the registration to the original one, saves you paying for more plates to be made.

www.gtgrafix.com (http://www.gtgrafix.com)

Not the cheapest around, but really good quality and you can see your design/layout before you order. Bought quite a few sets from them for myself and relatives, quick delivery too.

With the EURO badge obviously. You don't want to be one of those numpties that defaces their car with a GB sticker do you?

Have a bit of fore thought.

update..

was having a quick play around with my car earlier, rear number should be fairly easy to remove, but front one seems a bit of a mare to take off without breaking it, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

many thnks
