Hi there,
New on here so please be patient.
My "new" Mk3 16v GTI has a fault with the crank position sensor.
I have as advised removed the oil filter but still having no luck getting it out.
Can anybody point me in the correct direction?
It is difficult to see and I cannot see if the wiring pulls out/think there may be a bolt retaining it but cannot see anything.
Thanks in advance

Did one once on an 8v 2.0 MK3.
It was behing the front engine mounting which had to come off !!

I have found this image

Can you remember if the plug just pulls off? The wiring has all cracked and I was looking at replacing it first.
Thanks for your help.
No.
The new sensor comes with a bit loom on it. The plug (from memory) is located a fair distance away, just follow the cable.

Bigcol,
Thanks got there in around one hour.
Oil filter off, starter/engine mount out, old sensor out which had cracks all over the wiring.
New one fitted and car is now running great with no cutting out.
Here is the fault code details in case anybody else experiences/has the same problem.
