Experts,

I have discovered that my 2004 1.9TDi Passat has developed a small water leak. I only realised that I had a leak when i noticed that the expansion tank needed topping up.

I think I have located the leak. It appears to be a very small trace of water coming from the bottom left hand corner of the radiator (as you look at the car front on). Not much at all, just a small show of water.

So, a few questions:

Are Passats prone to leaky radiators generally..?

Is it likely to be a leak on the radiator, or would it be more likely to be the pipe connections to the radiator...?

How much coolant does the 1.9TDi engine actually hold...?

Has anyone else encountered similar problems..?

Your help is much appreciated....

Regards
P-P

My level was down this morning, just read a thread on it. Apparently they are unreliable :zx11:

A mate of mine who works for a VW garage in the West country says that small radiator leaks are common on Passats-even in low mileage cars.

Should probably go out and check the level of mine.

I did mine recently, although mine was leaking from the nearside.

Once that bumper is out of the way it looks very very accessible ;)

It is, and the bumper only takes a few mins to remove.

can u ask your mate about as leaky roof to passat estate '02 plate. leak appears in first aid box in boot compartment. i suspect the rear roof rail foot is at fault but have not taken roof linning down to investigate. the spongy foot that the rail sits on does this act as a water seal? have treid seam seal around stud that goes through roof but leak still there. have replaced o/s rear 1/4 light glass so that is ruled out. your thoughts much appriciated. thankyou stevie

Im losing coolant to mine is an 2004 tdi 130 bhp with 88,000, I still haven't found out where its coming from what with all my turbo problems. I have read some scary threads about head gasket failure with no symptoms eg sludge under the oil filler or oil in the expansion tank.
