Touran TDI 140BHP Diesel Oil 505 vs 507

Hi,

According to my service data, the 103kW/140PS engine will take 505, 506 or 507 oil, *or* if fitted with a particulate filter, then 507 oil only.

I have no idea if my engine has the particulate filter or not.

Long story short, ran low on oil over the weekend (yellow light) - so had to buy a litre of 505.01 compatible (Castrol Edge) from a garage and shove most of that in, because that's all they had.

For a top up like this, is there actually much difference between 505 and 507?

What year is your car? That should give an idea if it is fitted with a DPF. If you have got one fitted then topping up with the VW505.01 spec oil is not ideal but will not do any harm.

Also the Edge TD 5w-40 happens to meet the BMW LL04 spec and the Mercedes 229.51 spec, these are their versions of the VW507.00 spec for the BMW and Mercedes DPF's.

So you can relax, it will be fine.

That's really helpful. I did ring VW and they confirmed I need a 507.00 oil, but I'm not too worried after what you said about 20% topup with 505.01.
