I have just bought a new A4 2.0 TDIe SE and am disappointed with the fuel economy. It is no where near the advertised figures. I have averaged 45.mpg over the las 2500 mls. Anyone done any better?

Hello fellow Durham person;)

I have an automatic and am lucky to hit 45mpg on a decent run, changed sites and now spend ages sitting in traffic on the way to work, only averaging 37mpg now.

That's worrying.... I've got one on order (hoping to get it mid-January). I actually get 38 to 41 mpg out of my 2.0 petrol A4 built in 2003. Maybe I just drive like a little old lady?

Don't get me wrong I love the car and it's great to drive so don't be put off getting one, just don't expect averaging 60 mpg.;)

Hi chaps,

Much debated topic with all variants.
I have a 2.0TDI multitronic and over the first 3.5k have seen 37 at worse to 39 best and that is ACTUAL not DIS.

Although not expecting the claimed 48 combined I was hoping for low 40's, but the ca3 is very tight and would hope to be nbear this towards 10k.

For me auto is a new experience and I an still playing with manual mode which on the open roads seems to produce better MPG and IS more fun.

Anyone with a few 000 miler with MPG view????????

...update..

I have seen 40+ on trips before, but today mixed driving (40 miles), town, 50 ish and over taking DIS reading 49.5 ave. That has been in manual mode all day.

Although DIS2 which I re set at each fill up is showing 39.7 ave over 130 miles.

Your manual TDIe's should be doing upper 40's no probs, I should have thought.

Obviously your typical journey will affect things a good deal. If I use my B8 2.0 tdi on my 6 mile trip to work with no traffic the engine does not warm up fully and I see just over 40mpg on the DIS.

On longer journeys on motorway I can see the early 50s, however the cold seems to be affecting things I haven't seen above 45mpg over the holiday period. IMO if you typically do a lot of shortish trips in a traffic congested area you will not average above the early 40s.

My car has clocked 21,000 miles and I consider myself fairly light footed avoiding heavy acceleration or braking.

As noted by others my fuel consumption worsened noticeably after the first service (carried out at 19k). I don't know why this is but could it be that an over optimistic DIS was re-calibrated?

Seems to me that Audi are VERY optimistic on all of their quoted MPG figures

I can't get anywhere near the quoted figures for my model after 8 months! :aargh4:

It is important to bear in mind what they are - idealised figures for perfect driving in perfect conditions. Taking that into account, they seem ok to me. The quoted figures for my 3.0TDI are 31.7 urban / 50.4 extra-urban / 41.5 combined.

Around town (with a warm engine) I see 30-35 on the DIS (which is about 5% optimistic). My best ever on a long run was 48 (DIS) mpg for a long, uninterrupted run up the M6/M74 with the cruise on 70-75. I typically average 38-40 mpg on a tank (actual, not DIS).

Based on that I would say they're pretty realistic, especially seeing as I wouldn't have splashed out on the 3.0TDI if I didn't enjoy stretching its legs pretty much every time I drive it. :)
