Hi Guys,

As a Early Xmas present a colleage kindly gave me his redundant 6x9 speakers that I want to fit into my polo.

I already have a Kenwood head unit which I fitted successfully a month ago. This unit has four channels so should run four speaker without a problem.

The Question I have is-
I assume I will have to add speaker cable to run down to the boot of the car (the S model has no rear speakers so I assume the wiring will not be already present?)
How do I add these wires to the ISO Block- do they just slot in or do I need specialised tools?

On a different strand- I realise that lots of people frown on sticking the speakers into the parcel shelf- what is a better way of doing this that won't cost loads of money- the car is not worth spending loads on.

Thanks & Merry Xmas!!

to fit extra wires to an iso block you will need the right crimps and crimp tool. the crimp should just push in.
I wouldnt bother with this. it would be easier to just cut the wires for the rear speakers off the back of the headunit, and join either by terminal block or soldering to the speaker wire you plan to run to the rear of the car.
the 6n has plastic covers down the side which are ideal for tucking additional wire under, saves taking the seats out and running it under the carpet (which is a nicer way to do it, if your bothered about it looking pro)
where you fit the speakers is down to personal choice. if its just for a bit of extra noise, the parcel shelf is as good as any, just remember they are a popular target for thieves.
if you were bothered about sound quality/staging you wouldnt be fitting speakers in the back anyway!

Thanks g40jon
I had not thought about cutting the wires from the harness!!! Might still see about the crimps but at least I have an option if this is too fidley.

Sorry got the model of Polo wrong- its a 1.4 L not an "S" dunno where that came from!

Any advice of strengthening the parcel shelf or are VW shelfs strong enough for two 6x9's?

Cheers

nah they arent very strong. if it were me i would use the oe one to make a template then make one out of 15mm thich mdf or plywood. (the speakers will sound better too fitted in such a way. you could also make it so the speakers are hidden, reducing the chance of someone putting your rear window through to pinch them.)
