How often should the oil be changed?

How many miles should you go between oil changes on a 1997 90bhp Passat TDi? Should the fuel filter be changed at the same time also?

This is a matter of subjective opinion and you will get varying answers.

Personally on my Diesels I change the oil every 5000 miles complete with a new oil filter.

The fuel filter should only need changing about every 20000 if not 30000.

I think everyone has there own way of doing a oil change.
Some poeple do it every 3000k or 5000k and some just wait for the SERVICE NOW warning.
Me personaly i do the oil and oil filter change every 5000k and fuel filter, air filter, polen filter every 10000k.

I have a Long Service regime on my TDi and with the oil costing £20 zillion a pop I would be reluctant to change it 2-3 times a year. 1st service carried out at 17k after 15 months with no issues. Might consider an oil and filter change mid way this year...as best as I can estimate it..say after 8k..although this Long life oils is designed to do just that...long life
