View Full Version : Brake pedal sensor intermittent...

Hi I have an intermittent brake pedal position sensor (I presume) - seems to be a problem first thing and get a bit better but seeing as the (Passat 98 1.8T) is an Auto it can take a few minutes of pressing and releasing the brake pedal to get it in gear.

The brake lights themselves seem to work, but intermittent on the side that goes to the gear box.

I presume its either short out the wires on the auto side of the switch until the sensor fails and I have no brake lights - or - change the sensor now :approve:

Does anybody have a pictorial guide on changing the sensor out, and whether I need a 3 or 4 pin sensor for the car? GSF does not seem to elaborate, im guessing its the 93553B?

93550A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PA With 2 Pin Switch All 4.50

93551 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PA With 3 Pin Switch All 3.90

93553 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PA 8/83 > 7.95

93553B BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PA 97> 4 PIN 8.55

Thanks for any help!

John.

What is your engine code? It should be a 2 pin, VW number 443 945 515.

It also means the brake lights are not functioning correctly either.

Well yeah I imagine that's the case with the brake lights.

edit : its definitely an AEB

Is this guide accurate (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1158315)? I presume this is located right above the brake pedal?

The 2 pin switch is only £4.50 at GSF...

No, that guide is not relevant as yours uses a different design of switch.
