I have a problem with the water temperature at the moment, it used to sit just under 90 all the time. Now it drops off to nothing and then ocassionally will come back and read just under 90 or sometimes 70-80 - other times nothing. I appreciate it could be a dodgey connection or a faulty sensor (not sure which is kost likely) but don't know where the sensor is to have a look!!

Can anyone steer me in the right direction???

Thanks

Hi Andy,
Looks like you are having the same problem as me, sounds like the sensor is faulty. It is located I believe on the drivers side somewhere near the bottom of the engine bay, I am sure there is something on the forum detailing how to change it, I think you have to remove the cover under the engine to get access.

I have exactly the same problem so anyone could give us some info on where to find it and change it would be great!

I had the very same problem and was advised to change thermostate by a forum member and temp came straight back upto 90 and has remained there.... Maybe a cheraper fix than a sensor...

Mine does reach 90 sometimes and if I have the heater on it starts to drop below 90 and if I am idle it also drops.

I had a markone A4 for 4 years and now have had my mark two for 6 years and both cars temp was always on 90 degrees, was always amazed how consistant this was!

I have the same issue, I had mine remapped in July and he told me the thermostat had packed up, causing the engine to always run cold? Mines due to be replaced next week, will update...

Mine's the same too. New thermostats are less than £6 from Euro Car Parts, can anyone tell me where the stat is in the engine bay and if I need to drain the coolant to change the little fella?

Cheers.

I don't know if its the cold weather mine sticks at about 80 and if I slow down drops to 70 or a bit lower.

Apparently, the stat is at the bottom of the engine and is accessed from below. The coolant does need to be drained too. I'm going to blank of half the radiator for the journey home and see if it heats up faster. If it does, surely there's a posibility the stat is stuck open? Feel free to pick holes in my logic.
