A4 Symphony II poor reception

I have checked the connections with the radio amp and also the radio aerial to the back of the stereo which both appear fine though the reception only just picks up local FM stations. I note that a new aerial amp could be the answer but if I press this hard against the aerial strip in the rear window the reception does start to improve (if only slightly). Prior to buying a new amp does anyone have any other suggestions? Could a new rear window be the answer?

My 2003 A4 is currently in the menders for a similar problem. Mine was loosing the signal when the heated rear screen was switched on otherwise it was OK. They have diagnosed a broken connection on the screen so it is being replaced. I don't know if mine is a Symphony 2 though.
