With the recent heavy rains I've just had the plenum chamber top up and passenger side flood, which resulted in losing my central locking, windows, interior lights etc.

I managed to drain most of the water using a drill pump and got the Convenience ECU box out. I've cleaned up most of the terminals, had to remake and crimp the rest; I'd dried out the box and now have the windows and interior lights back; however although I can now lock/unlock the car using the key, neither remote will operate.

The handbook says that if you use the key within one minute of pressing the remote it should re-synchronise but so far it won't.

Hopefully someone's got an answer otherwise it'll be main dealer I guess.

Many thanks.

They need to be recoded not re-synchronised, this can be done with VAG-COM or by the dealer.

However, there is no guarantee this will fix it. It's still possible your CCU is knackered. I've got the same problem with my VW T5 Transporter, I need to re-wire the plugs on the van side (not on the CCU) as they are green with corrosion.

I've fitted a new CCU and coded the keys with VAG-COM and it doesn't work because the connectors are corroded. I shall be sorting this as soon as the contact removal tool I have ordered arrives.

You could try re-coding the keys first, if that doesn't work you need to check the connectors on your car and the CCU, possibly replacing the CCU also.

Thanks for the advice mate. I've taken the car into a specialist who put it on to VAGCOM and they've proved the system will not detect the fobs.
I will have a closer look at the terminals/cabling inside the car, I suspect they'll be the fault but understand I may well need a new ECU yet.
Fortunately the specialist was happy not to charge me thus far, but he reckons I'll probably be shelling out for a new board in the New Year.
